For applications such as transmission, absorption, and reflection, illumination sources are needed. Avantes offers a wide range of different types of light sources, to suit your specific application needs.

Introduction to light source types:
Tungsten halogen light sources are mostly used for measurements in the visible and near-infrared light ranges. AvaLight halogen light sources provide a very stable output coupled with long lamp life. Their high stability makes them suitable for reflective and transmissive applications or as illumination calibration light sources. Most importantly, the spectral output of halogen lamps is a smooth blackbody curve, which provides maximized dynamic range.

Avantes' D2 light source is well known for its stable output and is used for UV absorption or reflection measurements. These can also be used as illumination calibration sources due to their high stability. The halogen lamp in the AvaLight-DH-S is combined with the D2 lamp to produce a light source with a wide spectral range.

The output spectrum of the D2 light source will have several peaks, with the main peak at 656nm. AvaLight-DH-S-BAL incorporates a dichroic beam splitter installed to minimize these peaks, providing smooth light source output from 200-2500nm.

Our pulsed Xe lamps are suitable for applications requiring long life and high energy output, such as fluorescence measurement. This is an affordable UV source, but the spectral output is not as smooth as halogen and deuterium sources.

LED light sources provide high power at precise wavelengths. A typical application of AvaLight-LED light source is fluorescent. They offer long life, short warm-up time and high stability.

For wavelength calibration Avantes offers a variety of sources including argon, mercury argon, neon, zinc and cadmium. All Avantes spectrometers are factory wavelength calibrated and do not require recalibration as they have fixed slits and optics. For customers who need self-calibration, the AvaLight-CAL light source can help users perform calibration.

For automatic calibration, AvaSoft-all software provides an easy-to-operate calibration procedure.
